About me

Born and raised in Brazil, I hold a B.A. in Computer Science and moved to Texas in 2011. I’m currently taking psychology grad classes, doing research that blends the two areas, and aiming to get my PhD.

In the publishing world, I have worked as an agent intern and at Foreshadow, a Serial YA Anthology, and in 2019, Algonquin Young Readers published it as Foreshadow: Stories to Celebrate the Magic of Reading and Writing YA. My middle grade manuscript won in the children's category of the 2014 Houston Writers Guild Fall contest. My short story, The Witch and the Hunter, was published in an anthology by CBAY Books, and my YA sci-fi horror manuscript was selected for Pitch Wars 2016.

I have always loved stories. My little self would rummage through my brother's closet, which was where I thought books came from, and it wasn’t long until I started writing books of my own. Now, my critique group serves as a source of help and encouragement, and I have also been mentored by accomplished writers such as award-winning author Francisco X. Stork and NYT Bestselling authors Nova Ren Suma and Beth Revis.

P.S. I’m not offering editing services at the moment, but I’m leaving the testimonials here because they’re nice. :)

Testimonials

"Ariane Felix has a sharp editorial eye and a mind for working through the intricacies of plotting, creating fantasy and science fiction worlds, and in-depth characterization. Her critiques are insightful, honest, and tailored to the skills and needs of each writer. Seeing Ariane's critiques at work both in an advanced workshop she's taken with me and in her capacity as an astute member of our Reading Team at FORESHADOW: A Serial YA Anthology helps me know she would be a great choice for any YA or middle-grade writer seeking a way to revise a troublesome novel or finally finish a draft that's gotten stuck, allowing them to succeed in taking their work to the next level".

Nova Ren Suma, New York Times bestselling author of The Walls Around Us,
co-creator of FORESHADOW, and core faculty at Vermont College of Fine Arts

"Since 2017, Ariane assists as an intern in which she aids with reading manuscripts within a scheduled timeframe, providing Reader Reports and Reader Summaries, detailing the strengths and weaknesses in all aspects pertaining to the essentials of a story. Every manuscript requires time and consideration on what is working and more importantly, what is not, and while the reports are designed to provide constructive criticism, Ariane has been instrumental in providing editorial comments throughout the manuscripts as well, in the form of line edits. This has earned her the status of a high-valued asset, helping provide the necessary information needed that allows me to do my job more effectively and efficiently."

"Ariane has a great eye for what’s working in a story—and what can use improvement. Her evaluations go beyond the basics of world-building, language, and plot, for she also pays attention to what makes a story really compelling: character motivation and development. I trust Ariane to give me thorough assessments of the many stories she reads for FORESHADOW, and I always look forward to her insightful comments".
